My Experience with the Sony A7CR in Thailand: A Travel Photographer's Perspective

I'm currently three-quarters through a month-long journey across Thailand, and I've had the Sony A7CR paired with the Zeiss 35mm 2.8 lens as my trusty little companion. Although I also brought the 24-70 GMII lens for added versatility, I've used it only occasionally.

The A7CR has proven to be a killer little camera, significantly outperforming the A7C I previously owned. Here are a few observations from my experience:

  1. Portability and Comfort: The combination of the A7CR with the Zeiss 35mm lens is a dream for travel photography. Its lightweight design has been a game-changer, especially during extensive activities like 120+ km bike rides. Carrying it on my shoulder has caused no fatigue or discomfort, and it stays securely in place without any annoying flopping around.

  2. Image Quality and Flexibility: Despite encountering some rolling shutter issues (which I suspect are due to my handling), the overall image quality has been impressive. The extra megapixels are a boon for cropping, effectively extending the range of both the 35mm and 24-70mm lenses.

  3. Video Capabilities: Although I had plans to shoot more video during this trip, I haven't quite been in the right mindset for it. I'm looking forward to exploring the A7CR's video capabilities more thoroughly once I'm back in the States.

I'd definitely recommend this camera to anyone looking for a compact piece of kit. It feels like a massive leap from the old camera, which I really didn't like.
